Athula Dassana International Buddhist temple held a food festival successfully at the Church of our Lady, Queen of Afostles, The green Heston road, TW5 0RL on Sunday 9th September 2012. It was a special day for all Sri Lankans and for everybody from other communities. Devotees and other members of the community could remember the past event of food festival of the last year organised by this temple under the guidance of the head of the temple Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero.
The second year running of food festival event to meet people from different communities, and chance to taste Sri Lankan traditional foods.
The main sponsor of the event was Mr Ranga Ranasinghege (Tilina Sri Lanka Exchange).They gave us great support for success of this event. Our co – sponsors were the VMD solicitors, SL Bits bakery, Atlas shipping Line Company and Desawan radio.
The chief guests were Father. Simon T D Nguyen, Hounslow Councillor Mrs Amar Grewal, solicitor Daminda Gunatilake, Film producer Jayantha Jayathilake and they lighted the traditional oil lamp.
We were delighted to have a great selection of the traditional Sri Lankan foods. It’s mainly taste of buffet with including traditional Sri Lankan foods and also with other tastes. As well as had a opportunity to buy all of the foods, with Sri Lankan sweets, and other short eats and drink on offer price, as they wish. At the last part of event there was a raffle draw and all had a chance to win something. The lucky winners won the gift vouchers which were donated by the sponsors for the food festival event.
More than 300 visitors came to taste the Sri Lankan foods. There was a wide range of Sri Lankan food and drinks. And many devotees of the temple and sponsors gave great support for success of this event.
The Athula Dassana temple opened on the 7th July 2011 and held number of various religious, cultural and social services to the community.
