Court of Inquiry wasn’t appointed to implicate the officer – Army

Acting Military Spokesman Brigadier G. V. Ravipriya said the Court of Inquiry was not appointed to implicate the officer who was allegedly assaulted by Malaka Silva, but to probe into the details of the incident

Responding to a statement made by ex-Army Commander Sarath Fonseka in which he claimed the military is trying to take action against the officer involved inthe incident, Brigadier Ravipriya said the appointment of the Court of Inquiry is a routine action and assured that it does not imply the officer in question would be reprimanded.

“There are various claims being circulated about the incident. So the Court of Inquiry was appointed only to gather a true account of the incident,” he added.

Meanwhile, commenting on the accusation against the Army, on their inaction to arrest the culprits of the incident, Brigadeir Ravipriya said it is not the Army’s duty to conduct investigations into the incident.

“The Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and the Army cannot interfere with it as we are not provisioned to implemented civil law,” he said.
