“ Nawa Arahdi Budu Guna Pooja ” – Heathrow Athula Dassana International Buddhist Temple

 

Athula Dassana International Buddhist Temple is currently taking part in a Vassa (rainy season). The season lasts for three month, at the end of this season there is a Katina festival. The rainy season is a time of giving and for devotees to express gratitude to monks. The festival originated 2500 years ago, and are the largest alms giving ceremony for Buddhists.

Every Saturday during the rainy season, a special Dhamma Discussion and a Bodhi Pooja programme is held at the Athula Dassana International Buddhist temple. The temple held its “Nawa Arahadi Budu Guna Pooja “programme on the 29th of September 2012 at 7 p.m. in the temple. It was done based on the Binara full moon poya day.

The day was a great success. Devotees and other members of the community organised the event under the guidance of the head of the temple Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero. More devotees participated in the event with great devotion.

The main sponsors were Thissa Jayasinghe, Sisira Chandra, Nilanthi Wijesooriya, Sithira Dilaka, Damayanthi Karunarathne, Dimuth Jayaweera, Lahiru Samaradivakara, Loinel Gunathilaka and Asela Nalaka Perera.

Devotees of the temple whose were had a chance to donate the nine statues of Lord Buddha’s and it was kept beautiful small pavilions at the temple which were specially made for Nawa Arahadi Pooja.

More than 80 devotees participated in the event with great devotion. The head of the temple Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero is extremely pleased with the crowd that came but also the day it-self.
