Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that there can’t be any other opposition movement other than the UNP-led ‘Vipakshaye Virodhaya’.
He made this comment after signing an MOU to form a joint movement comprising nine political parties at the Town Hall, Colombo.
“We will be the center for all the people and parties who fight against the Rajapaksa regime. We may have our own views as different parties but now we are trying to start a new political vision,” Mr.Wickremesinghe said. Accordingly, the main purpose of forming the new movement is to fight against the Rajapaksa regime as well as the corruption within the government and to rebuild the national reconciliation
Leaders of the UNP, Tamil National Alliance, Democratic People’s Front, Nawa Sama Samaja Party, Mawbima Janatha Pakshaya, Ruhunu Janatha Party, Eksath Janatha Peramuna, Muslim Tamil National Alliance and Nidahase Wedikawa signed the MOU.
Leaders of the UNP, Tamil National Alliance, Democratic People’s Front, Nawa Sama Samaja Party, Mawbima Janatha Pakshaya, Ruhunu Janatha Party, Eksath Janatha Peramuna, Muslim Tamil National Alliance and Nidahase Wedikawa signed the MOU.
Mr. Wickremesinghe also invited other political parties to join the alliance.
M.A Sumanthiran, Hemakumara Nanayakkara, Aruna Zoysa, Sirimasri Hapuarachchi, Azath Salley and Sudarshana Gunawardana also addressed the event. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
