The next venture by the Sri Lanka Football Organisation UK to promote Youth Football inSri Lankais to support the game in the District of Amparai in theEasternProvince. The SLFO.UKhas been in contact with football enthusiasts and teams in Amparai for sometime and last month Mr.Ranjith Katuwana and Mr.Asoka Welmillage visited Amparai to hold an inaugural meeting to get things going.
The meeting was held at the Town Hall Amparai on the 17th of April 2013. Football enthusiasts including players and teams were present. The visitors from theUKexplained that the main purpose was to promote the game in the rural areas especially among the youth in the country. They told of how they encouraged the young people by providing them with football boots, training equipment and even coaching done by volunteer players from theUKso that bright players and teams from the villages could play in national level matches.
The meeting had been sponsored and organised by Mr Sarath Weerasekara, the MP of Amparai and Mr Nalin Jayawickrama, the Mayor for Amparai and number of prominent citizens of the area. All of them were very enthusiastic and pledged their support. for the game in the next few years
Sri Lanka Football Organisation UK is looking forward to promoting the game in this fast developing area of Amparai in the near future.
We expect to promote these activities from the funds generated by the activities we are organising here in theU.K.during the summer such as the football tournament due on 19th May and the special event of Ladies’ Cricket scheduled with it. WE welcome the enthusiastic participation of our members and the generous support in all these as usual which will all go to promote these activities.
