He has received information regarding a secretly active mafia in the health sector and he would reveal this information to the people in this country even if he is murdered says the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena. He says such rackets should not be allowed in the country.
Minister Sirisena said he had received information that Rs.1000 to Rs.1500 is estimated to a tablet that normally costs only Rs.100 when medicine has to be imported without the tender procedure of the Ministry. He said when he met a delegation of importers they had asked him for a week to find out details regarding the racket.
However, trade unions in the health sector say the Minister made a similar statement regarding ‘Senaka Bibile’ drug policy but even the draft of the policy is not to be found now they pointed out. They say they had revealed regarding the mafia that is active in the health sector to several ministers who had taken over the portfolio of health but no one took any action and now the minister suddenly talking about the mafia is nothing but a joke they added.
What should be done is not to have discussions with those involved in the mafia but to reveal them to the whole country and take necessary action they pointed out.
