Australian opener David Warner issued an unreserved apology for hitting England’s Joe Root in a Birmingham bar after he was banned from all cricket until next month’s first Ashes Test.
Warner, who was also fined £7,000, cut a contrite figure as he was paraded in front of the media at the team hotel in central London.
‘I struck Joe Root in the face and I’m here today to put my hand up and apologise publicly to him,’ he said.
