ENGLAND’S cricketers received their second blow to the chin in five days — and this one was far more painful and damaging.
A crushing defeat to Sri Lanka at The Oval last night has left England’s chances of reaching the Champions Trophy semi-finals as wobbly as a thirsty Aussie batsman.
It was all going so smoothly for Alastair Cook’s men as they piled up 293-7 with a Ravi Bopara blitzkrieg yielding 28 runs from the final over.
But, with Kumar Sangakkara stroking a sublime 134 not out and pinch-hitter Nuwan Kulasekera blasting an unbeaten 58, the Lankans swept to a seven-wicket Group A victory with 17 balls left.
