Most brides maids to one bride in one wedding ceremony – Guinness World Record from Sri Lanka

One of Sri Lanka’s leading bridal dresser and dress designers, Champi Siriwardana of Salon Champi (Manaliyange Mahagedara), wants to break the Guinness world record for a wedding. She is definitely a businesswoman with a sense of romanticism! Breaking this record will put her on the global map when it comes to weddings. “For the past 15 years Champi have been engaged in an enterprising business. She started as a modest business. Over time it has flourished into a highly successful business. Weddings are her forte and she has  excelled in that specific field. Many brides have passed through her hands. She has not confined herself to this country but she has had experience in dressing brides in other countries as well. She also has a curriculum for students who want to join the industry which she started five years ago.

The spectacular ceremony was elaborately staged on 08th November 2013 at the Avendra Gardens Hotel in Negombo, in front of hundreds of family and friends.

The wedding party – bride, groom, 126 bridesmaids, 25 bestmen, 20 page boys and 23 flower girls – were dressed in richly embroidered traditional costumes in shades of purple and gold. Held under strict Guinness Book of World Record conditions, the wedding breaks the previous record, held by a wedding in Bangkok, Thailand, that included 96 bridesmaids in 2008.

‘Breaking the Guinness world record is no mean feat and one that I cannot achieve alone,’ said Champi, who suggested the world record attempt.

Seyda Subasi, Guinness World Record official was present the event to witness this marvellous event.

Champi was so confident of her sister-in-law Nisansala and Nalin’s world record, she held a press conference before the big day to announce the event.

‘My dream is to create an impact not only in Sri Lanka but internationally as well,’ said Champi.

Champi’s husband, Geeth Ariyasiri an officer of Sri Lankan forces given great support to wife to make her dream success. There were number of people behind to make this event success. Janaka Mawella of The Wedding Designer was the wedding planner of the whole event. Imtiaz Hussain supplied National dress costumes and Ruwan Vidanage was the Kandyan costume supplier for groom and 25 batsmen. Chamathkara Flora has done whole flower arrangements and Studio 3000 was the official photographer. 3000 Cars hold the responsibility for transportation and Golden Shutter covered the whole event by video. Sarita Textorium supplied the saree for Nisansala and bridesmaids and Lanka Chandani made wedding cake for the wedding. Wedding cards designed by Younma and Image jewel was the jewellery supplier for Nisansala.
