Minister of Public Relations Mervyn Silva said, he had received Rs.300 million for the development programmes of the area within a day of assuming duties as Kelaniya electoral organiser.
“I will start this journey with 300 million rupees of money for this year,” he said.
Addressing a meeting at Kelaniya on Monday he said according to his ministry he had the power to implement development programmes anywhere in the country.
He said that Public Relations was applicable to the welfare of everyone from birth to death and it comes within his purview and that his portfolio covered a wide range of responsibilities.
“Great teachers like the Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohamed and the gods did not have a specific subject assigned to them. They had limitless responsibilities,” he said.
He said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa considered it as the most appropriate to appoint him as the Minister of Public Relations.
“In India it is a portfolio assigned to the Prime Minister. There is no cause for anxiety to anyone and I will do the needful to the incomplete works and unauthorised works,” he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
