President Mahinda Rajapaksa recognised the students, who scored highest marks at GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination which was held last December, at the Temple Trees on Thursday afternoon (03 April).
Nine students who secured first five places called on President Rajapaksa and the President congratulated the students for their excellent performances in the Examination. Congratulating the students the President also handed over cheques for further studies under the education sponsorship programme of the Peoples Bank. All the students who secured highest marks received scholarships under the patronage of the President.They were also gifted with laptop computers and dictionaries at the function.
Based on the results of the GCE Ordinary Level Examination conducted in December 2013, two female students of the Western Province have secured the highest marks. K.A Menushika Jayani Kariyawasam of Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha and Thapoda Harindi Gangodawila of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo, came to the first place of the examination.
Uchitha Thejan Gunasekara of Rahula Vidyalaya, Matara obtained second best results and Raveen Lasindu Thennakoon of Ananda College Colombo has secured the third place. Three students have succeeded in taking the fourth place. They are Kavindu Chethika Wickremasinghe of Royal College Colombo, Roshana Tharindi of Southland College of Galle and Dilini Indunil Fonseka of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo. Saumay Kumarihamy Abeyratne of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya Kandy and Dulanjana Minikirani Amaya Dharmasiri of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala are placed fifth in the countrywide results.
Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena, Chief of the President’s staff and Chairman of the Peoples Bank Gamini Sedara Senarath, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Anura Dissanayake, Commissioner General of Examinations W.M.N.J.Pushpakumara, parents, teachers and principals of the respective schools were also present at the occasion.
