Kingswood College Kandy was founded by Mr L.E.Blaze on 4 May, 1891 in Pavilion Street, Kandy. Later the school moved to “Randles Hill” in Peradeniya Road. It is one of the oldest schools in the country.
Mr Blaze modelled the school as an English Public School. It is significant that the house system was introduced to the school in 1922 and the names selected were those main public schools in England (Eton, Harrow, Winchester and Rugby). He built up a cadre on the strength of his reputation as an educationist. He coined the term “Gentlemen of Kingswood” to describe the body of students.
